Coagulation Health

Healthy Coagulation ImageHealthy Coagulation occurs in the body via a complex process by which platelets in the blood forms clots. This is an important part of hemostasis (to stop the loss of blood) whereby platelets stick and adhere to damage (tears) in blood vessels as well as release clotting factors. The average healthy person has 150,000 to 300,000 platelets in each milliliter of blood.

If the coagulation process is impaired, it can lead to an increased risk of bleeding (hemorrhage) and/or clotting (thrombosis). If the health of the platelets deteriorates, Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (I.T.P.) can result. This is a condition involving low platelet counts and platelets of poor quality. An adequate number of normally functioning platelets is needed for people with I.T.P. to prevent leakage of red blood cells from apparently uninjured vessels as well to prevent a hemorrhage.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), practitioners believe the body can heal itself. It is believed that in order to achieve optimum health and vitality one needs to provide support for the body to create balance and harmony. In order for the body to continue to have healthy coagulation function, it needs support as well. In eastern medicine philosophies, promoting balance and good health can be better achieved through stress reduction activities (like yoga, tai chi or meditation), detoxification, adequate clean water, effective supplementation, healthy diet, exercise and other healthy and natural techniques
