General Health Support - Natural Herbal Dietary Supplement*

Glycine is an Amino Acid that May Provide Health Support for:

  • Memory & Cognitive Function*
  • Cellular Health *
  • Kidney & Liver Function *
  • Detoxification Function *

Glycine is a protein amino acid found in the protein of all life forms. It is the simplest amino acid in the body. Although most glycine is found in proteins, free glycine is found in body fluids as well as in plants. The normal diet contributes approximately 2 grams of glycine daily. *

Glycine is of major importance in the synthesis of proteins, peptides, purines, adenosine triphosphate (ATP), nucleic acids, porphyrins, hemoglobin, glutathione, creatine, bile salts, one-carbon fragments, glucose, glycogen, and L-serine and other amino acids. Glycine is also a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system (CNS). Glycine and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) are the major inhibitory neurotransmitters in the CNS. Recently, a glycine-gated chloride channel has been identified in neurophils that can attenuate increases in intracellular calcium ions and diminish oxidant damage mediated by these white blood cells. Thus, glycine may be a novel antioxidant. *

What has Glycine been used for? Supplementation with glycine has been shown to support healthy kidney and liver function as well as nervous system health. In a human trial, glycine, acting as an inhibitory amino acid, had neuroprotective effects.*Animal studies and a small human study indicate that glycine has the potential to support memory and mental function. Other animal studies suggest that, glycine plays a protective role for the kidneys and liver particularly by supporting detoxification of certain chemicals. Glycine has also been shown to moderate the release of cytokines during times of metabolic stress. *

Caution: Glycine may be contraindicated for individuals immediately recovering from stroke, taking the antipsychotic drug clozapine, or with liver and kidney disease. If experiencing any of these situations, please contact your primary healthcare provider prior to using this product to ask for usage recommendation. *
